How to monitor your server resources

Keeping an eye on CPU, memory and disk use helps you catch problems early and know when to scale up.

Quick checks over SSH

  • top or htop — live view of CPU and memory use by process.
  • df -h — disk space per partition.
  • free -m — memory usage.

In WHM

On a cPanel/WHM server, the home screen and Server Status show load, memory and disk at a glance. WHM can also email you alerts when load gets high.

Going further

For history and graphs, tools like Munin, Netdata or an external uptime monitor are worth setting up. Consistently high usage usually means it's time to optimise your apps or upgrade your server. Want us to set up monitoring? Just ask.
