How to read your website error logs

When something on your site breaks, the error log is the first place to look — it records what went wrong and where.

View your errors

  1. Sign in to CHPanel.
  2. On the Home tab, scroll to the Advanced group and click Errors.
  3. You will see the most recent error-log entries for your sites, each with a date and time and a message describing what went wrong.

For the raw log files, open Files → File Manager: the logs folder in your account home holds your sites' logs, which you can Download to read on your computer. The Metrics tab gives the bigger picture — Requests and errors counts how many requests ended in 4xx or 5xx errors over the last 30 days.

Making sense of it

  • 404 — a file or page was not found (often a broken link or missing image).
  • 500 — a server-side error, frequently a bad .htaccess rule or a PHP problem.
  • PHP warnings / fatal errors — usually point to a specific file and line in your code, theme or plugin. If they started right after you changed PHP version, switch back in the PHP tab and update the plugin first.

Still stuck?

Copy the exact error message and open a support ticket — the message tells us a lot and helps us fix it faster.
