How to keep WordPress updated

Keeping WordPress, your theme and plugins up to date is the single most important thing you can do for security and stability.

Update from the dashboard

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (yourdomain.co.za/wp-admin).
  2. Go to Dashboard → Updates.
  3. Update WordPress core, then your plugins and themes — you can select all and update together.

Before a big update

Take a quick backup first (see our WordPress backup guide). If an update ever clashes with a theme or plugin, you can roll back.

Set and forget

In Plugins, you can enable auto-updates per plugin. For peace of mind, log in every couple of weeks and check the Updates screen. Need help recovering from a bad update? Open a ticket.
