How to lock or unlock your domain

A registrar lock prevents your domain from being transferred away without your say-so — an important protection against hijacking.

Check or change the lock

  1. Log in to your client area.
  2. Go to Domains → My Domains and open the domain.
  3. Find Registrar Lock and toggle it on or off.

When to unlock

Keep your domain locked at all times, except when you're deliberately transferring it to another registrar — then unlock it, get your EPP/auth code, and start the transfer. Lock it again afterwards.

Note

Some country-code domains (like .co.za) handle transfers differently and may not show a lock toggle. Unsure? Open a ticket and we'll confirm.
